Border Collies are a long-haired breed, requiring a lot of grooming.  Here is a guide of hair care:

Border Collies come in a variety of colours, but they all need the same coat care.

Ideally a Border Collie should be groomed once a day, every day, otherwise the dog's hair will become matted.  The longer it is left the harder it will become to groom him/her.  I know one dog whose ears are matted, whose tail is matted and who has matted furry legs.  This could have been avoided if she was groomed once a week.  It upsets me to see things like this when it can be easily avoided, by simply brushing the dog.

Border Collies moult twice a year - not as heavy as some breeds - but still a fair bit.

Please think hard about the grooming of this type of dog before you decide to bring one into your home.
